Promoted Pins Launched in UK
Pinterest has this week announced it is launching promoted pins in the UK, this is the first time these have been available outside the US.
Big brands Tesco, John Lewis and Made.com are believed to be the first in the UK to try the new scheme out.
The ads work in a similar way to Google Ads where you can bid for a topic, keywords or people.
This follows on from the launch of Buyable Pins launched in the USA last summer – where a ‘buy’ button appears with the pin and browsers can click directly to buy that item.
Pinterest now has over 100 million users, and interestingly over 80% of them browse on mobile. The Buyable Pins as mentioned above is an initiative exclusive to the mobile app.
Whilst some will have reservations against their Pinterest feeds popping up with ads rather than organic content, much like Facebook ads, Pinterest have said they will be tailored to you and your likes.
Retailers such as John Lewis see big value in Pinterest – weddings are one of the most popular subjects on Pinterest, with users often creating boards much like wish lists to bookmark and send to friends and family.
Ads will be available to place in the UK from today, Wednesday 6th April 2016, so expect to see them popping up in your feed soon!
